Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing (Nettleton)

Verse 1
Come Thou fount of ev'ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Verse 2
Here I raise mine Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I'm come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Verse 3
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy grace Lord like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

The only thing I've found
Is through it all

How He Loves

Verse 1
He is jealous for me loves like a hurricane
I am a tree bending beneath
The weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of
These afflictions eclipsed by glory
I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me

Pre-Chorus
Oh how He loves us so
Oh how He loves us
How He loves us so
(REPEAT)

Chorus
(Yeah) He loves us
Oh how He loves us
Oh how He loves us
Oh how He loves
(REPEAT)

Verse 2
We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean we're all sinking
So Heaven meets earth
Like a sloppy wet (unforeseen) kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don't have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way that

This Is Amazing Grace
Verse 1
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory the King above all kings
Verse 2
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
Who leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory the King above all kings
Chorus
(Yeah) (Oh) This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me
Verse 3
Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of Glory the King of Glory
Verse 4
Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of Glory the King above all kings
Bridge
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

So Will I (100 Billion X)
Verse 1
God of creation
There at the start before the beginning of time
With no point of ref'rence
You spoke to the dark
And fleshed out the wonder of light

Chorus 1
And as You speak
A hundred billion galaxies are born
In the vapour of Your breath the planets form
If the stars were made to worship so will I
I can see Your heart in ev'rything You've made
Ev'ry burning star a signal fire of grace
If creation sings Your praises so will I

Verse 2
God of Your promise
You don't speak in vain no syllable empty or void
For once You have spoken
All nature and science
Follow the sound of Your voice

Chorus 2
And as You speak
A hundred billion creatures catch Your breath
Evolving in pursuit of what You said
If it all reveals Your nature so will I
I can see Your heart in ev'rything You say
Ev'ry painted sky a canvas of Your grace
If creation still obeys You so will I
So will I
So will I ooh ooh

Bridge
If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in rev'rence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if ev'rything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy
Then we'll sing again a hundred billion times

Verse 3
God of salvation
You chased down my heart
Through all of my failure and pride
On a hill You created the light of the world
Abandoned in darkness to die

Chorus 3
And as You speak
A hundred billion failures disappear
Where You lost Your life so I could find it here
If You left the grave behind You so will I
I can see Your heart in ev'rything You've done
Ev'ry part designed in a work of art called love
If You gladly chose surrender so will I
I can see Your heart eight billion diff'rent ways
Ev'ry precious one a child You died to save
If You gave Your life to love them so will I

Ending
Like You would again a hundred billion times
But what measure could amount to Your desire
You're the One who never leaves the one behind

Join us in GIVING financially this year!

"Would you like to join me at my church this Sunday? "
And what if they say no?  Then what?

It’s a simple enough request.  Actually, it’s probably one of the most oft encouragements of homework that pastors give their congregations every week - Remember to invite someone back to church with you next Sunday!

So what happens when the invited persons say no.  Other than our asking again and again, there seems to be a dramatic distance between this Plan A and any kind of alternative thought.

Yet, our faith compels us to look for other opportunities to share our faith.  Jesus called us in Matthew 28 to ‘go’ and that requires us to put some further effort into this responsibility of sharing the Good News.

At DTPHX Church, we’ve heard a lot of the stories of people being invited to church.  From those conversations, there only seems to be a growing number of those that have turned their backs on the invitation and are thoroughly done with anything to do with the church.  Some aren’t walking away from their faith, mature or immature as it may be.  But they ARE walking away from attending a church.  So, the strategic alternatives Christians use to “will you go to church with me next Sunday” are few and far between.

So, are we to give up, satisfied that we tried but failed?  Paul exhorts us to try again.  In fact, Paul writes to encourage one another and all the more as we see the day of Christ’s return approaching.

Greeting ASU students
‘Every day’ is one of five core values Downtown Phoenix Church operates under.  We want to utilize every day of the week to share Christ and converse with people about His love.  When we do host ‘church’, we host it in Open Spaces so anyone and all can observe without obligation to join in but can begin their journey by observing.  We are depending on the Holy Spirit to move in their hearts as they listen in.  We also tend to meet in Smaller Groups so we can move more efficiently into shared, temporary spaces where the very people we hope to reach are already moving about.  Rather than beckon people to follow one of us to church, we want to bring church to them … an alternative for the thousands that will never begin a spiritual journey inside one of today’s church buildings.

Jesus continually displayed ministry through his personal encounters.  The gospels give us perspectives into the lives of individuals.  Two thousand years later, we recall them personally by their circumstances and measures of faith: The woman at the well, the man blind from birth, the woman caught in adultery, the hemorrhagic woman,  the paralytic at Bethesda.  Zaccheus, Nicodemus, Martha.  Individually with personal lessons to teach us.  Even recounting the feeding of the 5,000 people focusses in on the faith of one boy and lack of faith for the 12 disciples.

Popup Church at Ro2 Park
Even if we were given the use of a free building, we'd still be doing it the same way - Building relationships. - In the community.
-Talking to the ones that have given up ever going to an organized church.  -Talking to the ones that never have gone to church.  -Or those spurned by a church.  -Spending time with those out and about who think about anything other than 'church' on Sunday mornings. We choose to act as community missionaries.

  • And teaching those that join in our calling how to share their faith daily.
    • Encouraging ALL to be disciple-makers themselves.
      • Missional with our first dollars investing into people and ministry rather than overhead and expenses.

Colleen at one of the Roosevelt Art  pieces
We continue to notice that there are a lot more people around us NEVER going to church than those going.

______________________________
Colleen and I have made it a personal decision to fund our ministry largely-separated from the DTPHX Church's budget.  This allows us to discuss stewardship without sounding self-serving, especially to the skeptical we attempt to reach.

*Dollars given to DTPHX Church General Fund are utilized to support ministry in open
Bethany Hatch providing music at MADE
spaces
where all can observe and hear.  We support ministry on the downtown campus of Arizona State University,  partner with businesses in downtown Phoenix for events, support community relationships of generosity with music, and minister in smaller spaces to reach into our neighborhood.

*Dollars given to Colleen's and my ministry support us and also fund us for our personal interaction throughout the week.

Please go online to https://giving.ncsservices.org/g3/ and choose how you would like to donate.  And as you give, know that your gift is being matched by our family (up to $5000) to double it's value between now and the end of 2017!
